"Over twenty years ago, as Technip’s Diving Operations Manager, I was instrumental in establishing early Tele-Med medical monitoring systems across the Technip DSV Fleet. Back then, these systems were still early pioneering technology but provided some confidence that we could maintain and provide safety-critical monitoring care to an injured diver in saturation at a remote, offshore location.
In 2012, as BP’s first Global Diving Technical Authority, I mandated the following requirements of every global saturation diving provider: “All saturation diving operations shall have a proven system of medical support from within the saturation chamber complex through realtime online monitoring and satellite link to onshore specialist medical support. As a minimum, this shall include heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, and video imaging. Medical personnel at the worksite are to be trained in its use and be familiar with its operation.”
